Artability Workshops

Eligibility: All Artability workshops are free and open to adults (18+) who have a mental health diagnosis. You must register to attend. ASL interpreters available upon request.

Registration Process

Registration is required to attend workshops. 

There are two options for registration:

  1. Call the class registration voicemail at 651-228-3950, leave your name, phone number and list of classes you want to attend. You will receive a confirmation call-back.
  2. Register on our website. Click the “Register” button below.

Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel, please notify us by leaving a voicemail at 651-228-3950 as soon as possible. Class sizes and supplies are limited.

2019 Creative Journal, Sat March 9th, 1-4pm
During this class, offered monthly, we will explore forms of creative journaling. Each person will receive an old book that they reinvent into a journal by covering it with blackout poetry, paintings, quotes, collage, and drawings. The format will provide an open environment for expression and reflection. Over the course of this class, the book will become a work of art from cover to cover

2019 Printmaking, Sun March 10th, 1-4p
Join us for a fun afternoon of printmaking. In this class, artist will draw a simple image, which we will then create a print from. Watch your drawing transform through the printmaking process. The majority of this class will be spent exploring linoleum-cut printmaking, which is similar to making a stamp. It involves carving an image into a surface and then printing it with ink onto paper. Beginners and advanced artists welcome.
Note: Artists will need to be comfortable using small sharp tools.

2019 Abstract Landscape, Sat March 16th 1-4pm (Sold Out)
In this workshop, artists will explore landscape painting through an abstract lens, drawing inspiration from various landscapes and abstract art. Artists will create a painting using shape, line, texture and color to develop abstract interpretations of landscapes. Artists will practice composition and color pairing to explore how to develop an abstract painting. Beginners and advanced artists welcome.

2019 Charcoal Drawing, Sat March 30th, 1-4pm (Sold Out)
In this 3-hour, hands-on workshop, we will tap into our observational side and create a charcoal drawing. We will learn about the basics of charcoal, including the various materials and techniques used for charcoal drawing. If you are a beginner or think you can't draw- don't worry - you will be guided through step-by-step. Together we will explore observational drawing, composition, measuring, tonal values, material choice and much more. Beginners and advanced artists welcome.

2019 Flat Needle Felting Sat April 13th, 1-4pm
This class will introduce you to flat needle felting. We will use wool to create beautiful, textural works of art. Needle felting is often described as painting with wool! We will cover creating depth and color blending. Bring your own photo for inspiration or examples will be provided. This workshop does require some hand dexterity.

2019 Poetry Out Loud Sun April 14th, 1-4pm Mpls
In this exploratory workshop, you get to play around with poetry. Performance poetry, often called spoken word, is part of the oral tradition. We'll pull from theater, spoken word and dance to speak softly and loudly, to move to the poem's rhythm, and emphasize with hand and body movements. The same poem might be intimate and quiet as a singer-songwriter or bombastic as a rock anthem.

2019 Clay Sculpture Sat April 20th, 1-4pm Mpls (Sold Out)
Learn how to sculpt subjects ranging from large to small structures and 3-D subjects with earthenware clay. All pieces will be taken to Continental Clay to be fired. We will schedule additional workshops for artists to return to pick up their sculptures and/or paint them.
